The Mexican government decided to eliminate AD/CVD duties on the import of hexagonal steel wire mesh imported from China, an antidumping tax that Mexico had been charging since July 2002. However, the product will have to pay a tariff of 25 percent due to a recent decree to countries without a trade agreement with Mexico.

“The final compensatory fee of $0.45 per kilogram is eliminated,” the Ministry of Economy (SE) published today in the official gazette of the Mexican government (DOF).

The SE declared today concluded the administrative procedure to examine the validity of the definitive compensatory quota on the product imported to Mexico through tariff sections 7314.19.03, 7314.19.99, 7314.31.01, 7314.41.01 and 7314.49.99 of the Tariff of the Law of General Import and Export Taxes (TIGIE).

In July 2002, the Mexican government decreed a definitive countervailing duty for dumping of $2.8 per kilogram. In April 2009, it was reduced to $0.45 per kilogram, a tax that will be charged until today (September 21) because starting tomorrow, September 22, the elimination comes into effect.

Even though the countervailing duty was eliminated, the product will have to pay a 25 percent tariff because on August 15, the Mexican government decreed that tariff to 201 steel tariff fractions for imports from countries with which Mexico does not It has free trade agreements and the said product is on that list.

According to the Mexican government document, Grupo Deacero is the main producer of hexagonal steel wire mesh, with a share of between 79 and 83 percent and the rest is manufactured by the companies Cecsamex, Truper, Alambrados Mexicanos, Alambres Industriales, Mister Alambre, y Telas Metálicas Industriales.
