Mexican production of heavy trucks up 14.3 percent in April

Production of heavy trucks in Mexico rose 14.3 percent year-over-year in April to 17,557 units while exports increased 18.5 percent to 14,434 units, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency.

Production levels were the highest for April in the last six years. In the accumulated January-April, 75,240 units were manufactured, 24.4 percent more compared to the same period in 2022.

According to Inegi, the United States was the main export market, buying 95.9 percent of the heavy trucks sent for foreign trade from January to April.

In April, 14,434 units were exported, 18.5 percent more than in the same month last year. In the accumulated four months, 60,419 units were exported, 20.0 percent more than in the same period of 2022.

Retail sales increased 17.4 percent, year-over-year, to 3,847 units in April. It is the best April of the last four years and in the first four months of the year 15,341 units were sold, a volume that represented an annualized increase of 29.9 percent.

The production information from Inegi comes from the 10 companies affiliated with the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) and from the non-affiliated company, Sparta Motors, which is owned by China's Shaanxi Automobile.
