Mexican auto production and exports drop in May

Mexican auto production in May declined by 1.5 percent, year-on-year, to 349,628 units, local automotive industry association, AMIA, said.

The trade group said Mexican domestic sales in May decreased 11.2 percent, year-on-year, to 102,081 units.

Exports of vehicles in the same period rose 5.6 percent, year-on-year, to 304,867 units, AMIA said.

As for the accumulated period of January to May, Mexican auto production was 1.6 million units, 1.9 percent up, year-on-year.

Mexican domestic sales of vehicles in the five-month period dropped 5.4 percent, year-on-year, to 532,199 units.

Mexican exports of cars in the January-May period reached 1.4 million units, 3.4 percent up, year-on-year, AMIA said.
