Russia-based leading global iron ore and hot briquetted iron (HBI) producer Metalloinvest has announced that the installation of the shaft furnace has begun at the under-construction third hot briquetted iron plant at Lebedinsky GOK, a part of Metalloinvest. The shaft furnace is the main component of the production process for hot briquetted iron.

According to the statement, the construction of the third HBI plant at Lebedinsky GOK is currently one of Metalloinvest's key investment projects. Oleg Mikhailov, managing director of Lebedinsky GOK, stated, "Metalloinvest is expanding production in response to growing demand for metallics. The increase in HBI production is a key part of Metalloinvest's development strategy. Investments in this project will total approximately $650 million.
The construction of HBI-3 Plant will allow the company to strengthen its position in the global market for high value-added iron ore products."

Lebedinsky GOK's current HBI production capacity exceeds 2.5 million mt per year, and the commissioning of HBI-3 Plant will increase this volume by a further 1.8 million mt.
