Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, is proceeding with the investment process at its ferroalloy facilities.

The company has announced that it launched one more upgraded furnace at its Bratsk Ferroalloy Plant. The upgrade of the furnace is expected to increase its ferroalloy output by 40 percent as it has boosted the ferroalloy ore smelting furnace’s capacity from 25 MVA to 33 MVA, SteelOrbis understands. The facility is capable to produce ferrosilicon with 65 percent and 75 percent silicon content.

“The technical upgrade of the ore-smelting furnace No. 3 became the second stage of Mechel Group’s large-scale project of modernizing its ferroalloy production facilities, which began with upgrading the furnace No. 4. The launch of yet another upgraded facility will significantly improve the plant’s efficiency while bringing down its environmental impact and production costs due to decreased specific power consumption,” Oleg Korzhov, Mechel’s CEO, commented.
