Russia's leading mining and metal company Mechel has announced that it has completed laying tracks along the entire route of the railway link from Ulak station to the Elga coal deposit in southwestern Siberia, with the last section being laid in December 2011.

Construction of the railway track, which involved laying 321 kilometers of tracks, has so far required an investment of RUR 40 billion ($1.25 billion).

According to Mechel's statement, direct railway access to the Elga coal complex will allow rail transportation of coal mined at the deposit.
