Mechel and JFE Steel extend coal supply deal for another three years

Russian mining and steel group Mechel has announced that it has extended its long-term deal for coal supplies with Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation for another three years. The agreement will be in force until June 2021.

According to the agreement, Mechel will supply JFE Steel up to 1.5 million mt of metallurgical coal per year, mostly coking coal concentrate produced by its subsidiary Yakutugol Holding Company, as well as coking coal concentrate produced at its Elga coal deposit.

In 2015, the two companies signed their first three-year contract for the supply of up to one million mt of coal annually.
