Major automakers announced today they will temporarily close factories in the US, Canada and Mexico for the remainder of March due to coronavirus concerns along with anticipation of lower consumer demand.

Closures at Honda will start Monday and involve plants that assemble vehicles as well as build engines and transmissions, reducing output by approximately 40,000 vehicles. The closures will also affect 27,600 jobs, the company said, adding that all impacted employees will be paid during the shutdown.

Ford, GM and Fiat Chrysler will also temporarily suspend oprations until March 30. Other automakers including Hyundai and Volkswagen will temporarily shut down US locations.
