Labor dispute at ArcelorMittal's Lázaro Cárdenas mill yet to be resolved; production affected

Following the strike of 3,500 unionized workers launched last Saturday, ArcelorMittal's Lázaro Cárdenas mill in Michoacán, Mexico has had to lower production significantly, according to local reports.

Since the strike began Saturday, output at the mill has declined by 70,000 mt, local reports say. The mill produces over seven million mt per year. The mill produces both long products and flat products, with its principal product being slab. Crude steel, long and flats production have all been impacted by the strike.

So far, the negotiations to resolve the labor dispute remain deadlocked. The plant employs a total of 7,000.
