Kumba Iron Ore’s output and sales down in H1

Global miner Anglo American’s South African subsidiary Kumba Iron Ore has announced its operational results for the second quarter and first half of this year.

In the given quarter, Kumba Iron Ore produced 9.18 million mt of iron ore, down by 0.9 percent quarter on quarter and down by 1.5 percent year on year. In particular, output of its Kolomela iron ore mine came to 5.39 million mt, falling by 34.9 percent quarter on quarter and declining by 63.5 percent year on year, while output at its Sishen mine increased by 1.2 percent quarter on quarter and up by 3.1 percent year on year to 6.64 million mt. In the second quarter, the company’s iron ore sales amounted to 9.55 million mt, increasing by 11.9 percent compared to the previous quarter and up by one percent from the same period of 2023.

In the first half, the company produced 18.46 million mt of iron ore, up by 1.5 percent year on year, while it sold 18.09 million mt of iron ore, decreasing by 4.5 percent year on year. In particular, output of its Kolomela iron ore mine came to 5.25 million mt, declining by 11.9 percent year on year, while output at its Sishen mine increased by 3.2 percent year on year to 13.2 million mt.  

Kumba anticipates production in the range of 35-37 million mt and sales of 36-38 million mt in the full year.
