Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) has announced that during the current year, it has launched an investment program with a value of around TRY 193 million ($49.82 million) in order to improve air quality and enhance environmental protection.

According to the company’s statement, it has started most of the investments which include maintenance and renovation works and also the installation of the new equipment such as dedusting systems and flue gas desulphurization plants at its facilities and it expects to complete all of these investments at the end of 2018.

The company also stated that it has increased the usage of imported ore at its sinter plant, thereby reducing the recently increased sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions resulting from the domestic ore.
