Turkish steel producer Kardemir has stated that it wants to operate the Filyos port project in Turkey’s Zonguldak province after the completion of infrastructural investments.

Kardemir chairman Kamil Güleç highlighted the importance of the port project for his company, pointing out that, after the completion of Kardemir’s investments in its meltshop, it will require a new port for handling eight million mt of raw materials and products, since the steelmaker’s annual capacity is expected to reach 3.5 million mt. Accordingly, Filyos port will be an inevitable part of Kardemir’s foreign trade activities after a such capacity boost, Mr. Güleç indicated.

The project in Filyos, one of Turkey’s biggest ports with an annual capacity of 25 million mt, started in December 9, 2016.
