JFE Steel to use ThyssenKrupp’s technology

Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corp announced that it is going to enhance its steel sheet welding services for auto makers. German steel producer ThyssenKrupp AG will supply technologies and facilities for this expansion plan. However, JFE did not disclose when it will use ThyssenKrupp's technology. ThyssenKrupp's equipment will be used in steel sheet processing plant of JFE. ThyssenKrupp's technology called tailored welded blank, enables the welding of different steel sheets before they are pressed and used to make auto parts. JFE reported that the equipment has an annual process capacity of 2 million tons of steel sheets and costs Yen 500 million ($4.6 million).
