Japan’s scrap exports up 25 percent in Jan-Apr

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 882,437 metric tons in April this year, rising by two percent month on month and up 23.5 percent compared to April 2012.

Meanwhile, in first four months of 2013 the country's scrap exports amounted to 3.3 million mt, increasing 24.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the first four months, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 2 million metric tons, while exports to China amounted to 1 million metric tons, increasing by 27.2 percent and up 5.9 percent respectively, both compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Vietnam imported 118,159 mt of steel scrap from Japan in the first four months, quadruple compared to the first four months of 2012.
