Japanese scrap exports up 80 percent in October

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 794,156 metric tons in October this year, increasing by 26 percent month on month and up 80 percent compared to October 2011, as the country's scrap exports recover following the earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan on March 11, 2011.

In October this year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 498,852 metric tons, while exports to China amounted to 255,000 metric tons, increasing by 20.6 percent and up 38.6 percent respectively, both compared to September.

Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of this year, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 7 million metric tons, increasing by 66 percent year on year.
