According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April this year decreased by 64.5 percent on tonnage basis compared to March, decreasing to 12 ships, compared to 32 ships recorded in March, totaling 533,300 gross tons, including nine bulk carriers and three tankers. In April last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 16 ships amounting to 848,400 gross tons.
In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 68 ships with an aggregate of 3.39 million gross tons, up 5.9 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in April this year Japan delivered 17 ships for export, totaling 918,391 gross tons, falling from 19 ships totaling 1.07 million gross tons recorded in March. In April 2017, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 19 ships with 890,259 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period of the current year, Japan delivered 75 ships for export, totaling 3.88 million gross tons, falling by 20.3 percent year on year.
