According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April this year moved down by 35.1 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, declining to 16 ships, compared to 23 ships recorded in March, totaling 637,900 gross tons, including 12 bulk carriers, one general cargo ship and three tankers.
In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 87 ships with an aggregate of 3.54 million gross tons, down 24.5 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in April, Japan delivered 17 ships for export, totaling 610,637 gross tons, compared to 24 ships totaling 871,393 gross tons recorded in March.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period this year, Japan delivered 77 ships for export, totaling 3.08 million gross tons, growing by three percent year on year.
