Japan’s coking coal imports up 4.1 percent in August

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's coking coal imports totaled 6.95 million metric tons in August this year, falling by 0.5 percent month on month and up 4.1 percent compared to August 2012.

In the first eight months of 2013, Japan's coking coal imports amounted to 52.4 million metric tons, increasing by 9.6 percent year on year.

In August this year, Japan's coking coal imports from Australia amounted to 3.9 million metric tons, up 23.6 percent compared to the same month of last year, while Indonesia exported 1.78 million mt of coking coal to Japan in August this year, down by 6.7 percent year on year.
