Japan’s auto output rises 59.5 percent in May

Japanese automobile production in May this year totaled 781,340 units, increasing by 291,581 units or 59.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The figure indicates a year-on-year rise for the eighth consecutive month, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Domestic sales in May this year in Japan stood at 394,950 vehicles, up 66.4 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in May amounted to 387,776 units, up by 184,943 units or 91.2 percent compared to May 2011, and increasing compared to the same month of the previous year for the fifth consecutive month. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $12.8 billion, including $9.1 billion for vehicles and $3.7 billion for parts. This is an increase of $6 billion or 89.6 percent as compared with $6.7 billion recorded for the same month of the previous year.
