Japanese auto output down 12.8 percent in 2011

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), Japanese automobile production in December 2011 totaled 848,208 units, increasing by 100,341 units or 13.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, after a three consecutive months of year-on-year increase.

Meanwhile, Japanese automobile production in 2011 amounted to 8,398,654 units, decreasing by 1,230,266 units or 12.8 percent compared with the 9,628,920 units recorded for the previous year.

Domestic sales in 2011 in Japan stood at 4,210,220 vehicles, down 15.1 percent as compared with the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in 2011 amounted to 4,464,413 units, down by 377,047 units or 7.8 percent year on year. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $142.13 billion, including $101.9 billion for vehicles and $40.24 billion for parts. This is an increase of $1.3 billion or 0.9 percent as compared with the $140.8 billion recorded for the previous year.
