In June this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased by 21.44 percent year on year and were up 1.85 percent month on month, totaling 18.55 million metric tons, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.
According to the released information, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 13.88 million metric tons in June, improving by 31.04 percent year on year and up 10.75 percent compared to May of the current year. South Korea was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland, with shipments totaling 1.93 million metric tons - up 11.40 percent year on year but down 15.61 percent from May. South Korea was followed by Japan, with iron ore exports at 1.65 millon metric tons, down 30.69 percent year on year and down 29.78 percent month on month.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
