Iran's main flat steel producer, state-run Mobarakeh Steel, intends to double the output capacity of its subsidiary Hormozgan Steel.

"At present we are negotiating with foreign plantmakers for the expansion of Hormozgan Steel's annual capacity from 1.5 million mt to three million mt," said Mohammad Masoud Samienejad, the managing director of Mobarakeh.

Hormozgan Steel, which produces steel slabs, was bought by Mobarakeh a few months ago. Hormozgan Steel, located in Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf was put into operation earlier this year.
