Iran’s Trade Development Organization has banned exports of slabs, hot rolled sheets, cold rolled sheets, tin-plated sheets, other coated sheets and color coated coils listed under 66 tariff codes until May 30, according to a report by Reuters. No further details regarding the decision were provided.
The export ban comes as Iran’s steel industry has been affected by strikes during the conflict with Israel and the US. According to a report published by Iranian newspaper Etemad on Sunday, around 10 million mt of Iran’s annual steel production capacity, corresponding to 25-30 percent of the country’s total steel output, has gone offline following damage to key facilities.
Major Iranian steelmakers, including Mobarakeh Steel Company and Khuzestan Steel Company, were reportedly hit during the war. It was stated that the resulting production disruptions have affected key steel-consuming sectors such as construction, automotive and infrastructure.
