Ipsco helps out Alabama employees, community
Ipscos Alabama plant is up and running today, but officials in Regina, Canada are worried about the few employees who have not made it back to work. Spokesperson John Comrie told SteelOrbis that most employees are back at work today, but there are some employees in southwest Alabama and Mississippi whom the company has not been able to reach. Still, the situation looks more hopeful than yesterday. Yesterday we did not know very much information about what our employees personal situations were like but today we have now been able to have communication with most of them, and most are doing okay, said Mr. Comrie. Concerning the workers still affected by the disaster, Mr. Comrie said, We will do our best to help them out in any way they need. Specifics will depend on the individuals situations. So far, we are in the process of ordering trucks of ice, trucks of supplies with imperishable foods and diapers, gas, and diesel. The company has also supplied diesel to the local community so that they can use diesel-fueled generators to get electricity in their homes. The major problem right now is the shortage of gas and diesel, said Mr. Comrie. The Alabama plant is located only slightly above sea level but was spared from flooding and only suffered minor wind damage. During last years hurricane season, Ipsco employees worldwide took up a collection to help their Alabama co-workers.Ipsco helps out Alabama employees, community
