Indonesian government not to reduce duties on imported tinplate

Indonesian government reportedly will keep duty rate on imported tinplate, as the material is available in domestic market. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Indonesian government eliminated duties on imported hot rolled and cold rolled steel products to be in effect as of April 1, 2004 for one year. However, according to the statement made by Indonesian government, the duty on imported tinplate will not be reduced to 0% as it would damage local producers of subject merchandise. In Indonesia, imported tinplate is currently subject to 15% duty.
