India’s steel imports up

India's steel imports rose 121 percent year on year to 1.39 million metric tons during April-September 2005-2006 fiscal year. Hot rolled coil imports rose 134 percent year on year to 1.1 million metric tons during the same period. Semi-finished imports increased 140 percent year on year to 540'000 metric tons. Imports of bars and rods rose 247 percent to 305'000 tons while section imports increased 145 percent to 130'000 tons. Plate imports rose 83 percent to 287'000 tons.
