India’s NMDC to commission 10 million mt iron ore mine in 2018-19

India’s largest iron ore miner NMDC Limited will commence production of a greenfield project - Deposit 13, at Bailadila in the state of Chhattisgarh in 2018-19, for exclusive supply of iron ore to sponge iron producers in the region, company sources said on Friday, December 29.

The commissioning of Deposit 13 has been expedited by the transfer of the mining lease of the reserve to NCL Limited, a joint venture of NMDC and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation, the sources said.

Deposit 13, with an estimated reserve of 324 million mt of iron ore, is expected to produce 10 million mt per year from 2018-19 for exclusive supply to sponge iron units in and around Chhattisgarh state, the sources said.
