India’s coking coal output planned at 53 million mt for FY 2019-20

India’s sole domestic supplier of coking coal, state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), plans to increase coking coal production during the financial year 2019-20 to 52.95 million mt, up from 34.12 million mt in the previous financial year, Minister of Coal Pralhad Joshi has told India’s parliament in reply to a query.

The minister also informed parliament that total Indian coking coal imports during the financial year 2018-19 were recorded at 51.84 million mt.

CIL has also taken steps to rapidly commission new coking coal washeries by 2020-21 and its supply of washed coking coal to domestic steel mills will be increased to 15 million mt per year from present level of 1.6 million mt per year, the minister said.
