India and Russia have agreed to set up a high level working group that will explore options of increasing coking coal imports to India, a government official said on Monday, May 25.

According to the official, the decision to set up a working group to increasing coking coal shipments from Russia to India was taken at a video conferencing last week between India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan and Russia’s Minister of Energy, Alexander Novak.

The decision to expedite coking coal imports to India was a follow up of Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Moscow late last year and laying down contours of greater co-operation in field of energy security between the two countries, the official said.
