Historical high for China's daily crude steel production in September

Against the expectations of most market players, China's daily output of crude steel reached a new historical high of 1.4237 million mt in September. Given the background of reduced exports, the continuous rise in daily steel output for August and September has greatly increased the pressure on the domestic market.

China's crude steel production in September totaled 42.7123 million mt, up 6.3614 million mt or 17.5 percent year on year. Average daily production reached 1.4237 million mt, up 82,300 mt/day month on month. Meanwhile, crude steel production for the January-September period hit 362.7321 million mt, up 54.2864 million or 17.6 percent.

China's pig iron production in September totaled 39.5128 million mt, up 4.4526 million mt or 12.7 percent year on year. At the same time, total January-September production reached 346.3821 million mt, up 47.0026 million mt or 15.7 percent.

China's finished steel production in September totaled 48.5929 million mt, up 8.065 million mt or 19.9 percent year on year. On the other hand, production for the January-September period reached 417.5382 million mt, up 80.8138 million mt or 24 percent.

The breakdown of China's steel production in September according to the various products is as follows:

In comparison with August, long product production in September dropped, while HR production soared dramatically under the influence of capacity release.

China's coke output for September totaled 28.9035 million mt, up 3.9221 million mt or 15.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, coke output for the January-September period reached 241.8458 million mt, up 39.2949 million mt or 19.4 percent year on year.

Ferroalloy output totaled 1.5207 million mt in September, up 169,000 mt or 12.5 percent year on year. January-September production reached 12.5114 million mt, up 2.6908 million mt or 27.4 percent year on year.

In September, China's iron ore output totaled 61.4501 million mt, up 6.0397 million mt or 10.9 percent compared with the same period last year. January-September iron ore output reached 505.4652 million mt, up 94.1835 million mt or 22.9 percent year on year.

September's exports totaled 5.0237 million mt of crude steel, accounting for 11.8 percent of total crude steel production for the month. This figure was down by 2.64 percentage points compared with the previous month and moved further in the direction of the targeted export quantity set by the CISA. From January to September, China's steel exports reached 58.0863 million mt of crude steel, accounting for 16 percent of China's total crude steel production during this period.
