Guryevsk Metallurgical Works’ output reaches seven-year high in August

Russian steelmaker Guryevsk Metallurgical Works (GMZ) has announced that in August this year it achieved its highest monthly output and shipment levels of the last seven years, reaching its absolute maximum capacity levels.

Specifically, in August GMZ smelted 15,000 mt of crude steel, produced 22,000 mt of long steel products and 8,500 mt of steel grinding balls, and delivered more than 30,500 mt of finished steel products.

In January-August this year, GMZ increased its crude steel output by 62.7 percent year on year, producing 127,400 mt, upped its long steel product output by 301.5 percent to 157,800 mt compared to just 39,300 mt in the same period last year, and raised its steel grinding balls production by 115 percent to 63,000 mt compared to 29,300 mt produced in January-August 2009.

GMZ's shipments of finished steel products more than tripled in the first eight months of the current year to 223,000, from 71,000 mt in January-August 2009.
