Germany’s steel output down in 2005

Data from Germany's Federal Statistical Office indicate that the country's crude steel output fell 4 percent year on year to 44.51 million tons in 2005. Pig iron output decreased 3.9 percent year on year to 28.84 million tons. In December alone, crude steel production reached 3.53 million tons, down 1.6 percent from a year earlier. Pig iron production amounted to 2.47 million tons, down 3 percent a year ago. Compared to previous month, December production of crude steel fell 1.9 percent, but pig iron production increased 10.4 percent.
