As part of Gerdau’s Rancho Cucamonga, California mill’s 60th anniversary celebration this week, the company broke ground a $22 million environmental upgrade.
According to the company, the new pulse jet baghouse project will capture 99.9 percent of the contaminants in the mill’s emissions, compared to 99.4 percent of emissions captured by existing equipment. The new equipment will be manufactured by the SMS Group and completed in 2018.
“Gerdau has worked closely with the South Coast Air Quality Management District to develop and analyze these new improvements to the mill’s environmental systems to ensure that we continue to meet federal, state and regional air quality standards for many years to come,” said the mill’s vice president and general manager, Mark Olson.
