ArcelorMittal has announced the completion of the first phase of the merger of Mittal Steel into ArcelorMittal. When the second phase is completed, the company will have a 10 percent share in the global steel market, becoming the world's largest steel company.

The merger in question received the green light after the approval of Mittal Steel and ArcelorMittal shareholders at the extraordinary general meeting of Mittal Steel shareholders held on August 28, 2007.

Under the terms of the merger, Mittal Steel shareholders have automatically received one newly issued ArcelorMittal share for each Mittal Steel share, as previously announced by SteelOrbis.
