Australian coking coal producer Beacon Hill Resources has announced that the second phase of the expansion of its Minas Moatize mine located in Mozambique will be completed by the end of the year. With the expansion in question, the company plans to increase the plant feed capacity to 1.8 million mt per year and support hard coking coal at a higher and consistent yield.
Meanwhile, in the third quarter of the year optimization work has continued for the third phase of the Minas Moatize expansion, which is aimed at increasing production to 4 million mt of coal per year.
Justin Lewis, chairman of Beacon Hill, stated that the company's top priority remains securing the rail allocation on the Sena rail line in Mozambique "as soon as possible". Use of the Sena rail line will allow the company to increase export volumes.
Lewis also noted that the company board is monitoring the ongoing South African drivers' strike which may impact the final timetable for completion of commissioning.
