Evraz successfully completes slab caster trials

Russian steelmaker Evraz Group announced yesterday that on September 15, 2005, it successfully completed the first trials of its continuous slab caster at the site of OAO West Siberian Iron and Steel Plant (“ZapSib”). Commenting on the new caster, Valery Khoroshkovsky, Managing Director Operations of Evraz Group, said “The successful trial of the slab continuous caster, and its subsequent commissioning, is an important first step in the modernization program at ZapSib, which will result in a significant increase in the volume of steel production at the plant and diversify its product mix.” ZapSib has an annual slab capacity of 2.5million tons.
