Evraz prepares to start construction of new iron ore mine at Kachkanar

Russian mining and steelmaking company Evraz started to prepare land for construction of new iron ore mine at Kachkanar, which is expected to start on February 2020. The production at the new asset is scheduled to start in early 2021 and the capacity will reach 13 million mt of iron ore per year until 2024.

Total resources of titanium magnetite iron ore is estimated at 6.87 billion mt, average Fe content in iron ore is 16.6 percent. Evraz has plans to install a crusher in the mine in the future and build conveyer for transportation of the material to the mill.

At the moment, Evraz is producing iron ore at Kachkanar’s other mine - the Gusevogorskoe deposit, which supplies the raw material to Evraz NTMK. Last year, 58.5 million mt of iron ore with low Fe content was mined at this asset. About 3.5 million mt of sinter and 6.5 million mt of pellets were produced from raw ore.
