German-based steel pipe producer Europipe, a 50/50 joint venture of German steelmaker Salzgitter Group and German-based AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke, has announced that it will deliver 635,000 mt of large diameter (LD) pipe for the planned European Gas Pipeline Link (EUGAL) project.

Starting in Lubmin near Greifswald on the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the EUGAL gas pipeline will stretch southwards to Deutschneudorf in Saxony and from there on to Czechia, thus passing through the German states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and the Free State of Saxony. The new pipeline will be operational by the end of 2019.

The pipes for the project will be produced at the Mülheim an der Ruhr location from 2017 to 2019. The starting material for the large diameter pipe mill will be supplied by Europipe's shareholders.
