Euro area construction output up 3.9 percent in Jan from Dec

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, in January year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) rose by 3.5 percent compared to December last year and by 1.4 percent compared to the same month of 2022. In December last year, production in the construction sector had moved down by two percent month on month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in January increased by 0.9 percent compared to the same month of 2022 and by 3.9 percent compared to the previous month. In December last year, production had decreased by 2.3 percent month on month.

Building construction in the EU-27 in January moved up by 3.6 percent month on month and by 1.5 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 2.3 percent from December and by 0.5 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction rose by 4.2 percent month on month and by 1.4 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region advanced by three percent month on month and fell by 1.9 percent year on year.

As compared to January 2022, construction output in January this year increased by 26.7 percent in Slovenia, by 14.7 percent in Slovakia, and by 6.3 percent in Portugal, while it decreased by 4.7 percent in Belgium, by 3.6 percent in Hungary, and by 2.7 percent in Finland.

As compared to December last year, construction output in January this year increased by 12.6 percent in Germany, by 9.8 percent in Slovenia, and by seven percent in Poland, while it decreased by five percent in Hungary, by 4.3 percent in Romania, and by 1.5 percent in Belgium.
