Euro area annual inflation stable in April

Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.0 percent in April this year, up from -0.1 percent in March, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In April 2014, the annual inflation rate was 0.7 percent.

Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation remained stable in April, up from -0.1 percent in March. In April 2014, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.8 percent.

In April this year, annual inflation in the EU-28 increased in 17 states, fell in nine states and remained stable in one state as compared with March (no data were provided for the UK). The lowest inflation rates were observed in Greece (-1.8%), Cyprus (-1.7%), and Poland and Bulgaria (both -0.9%), while the highest were observed in Malta (1.4%) and Austria (0.9%).
