As of December 31, 2009, Russia utilized about 51.7 percent of the adjusted steel quota of 3,294,657 mt allocated to it by the European Union (EU) for the current year, while Kazakhstan utilized 1.28 percent of its allocated EU quota of 205,000 mt.
According to the latest figures, Russia exported a total of 1,702,930 mt of steel products to the EU in the period in question. Specifically, Russia used 87.22 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (931,139 of 1,067,575 allotted mt), 24.5 percent of its plate quota (74,347 of 303,498 allotted mt), 40.77 percent of its alloyed flat products quota (46,860 of 114,925 allotted mt), and 23.4 percent of its wire rod quota (83,089 of 355,131 allotted mt).
On the other hand, up to the end of this year, Kazakhstan supplied to the EU a total of 2,623 mt of flat rolled products, excluding hot rolled coils and heavy plates, using about 2.23 percent of its allotted quota of 117,875 mt for flat rolled products.
