EU new car registrations up 84.6 percent in September over August

In the January-September period of the current year, new car registrations totaled 9,572,259 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 6.1 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In September this year, EU new car registrations increased by 6.4 percent year on year to 1,235,501 units and were up 84.6 percent compared to August. 

In the first nine months of this year, Spain (+17.2 percent), the UK (+9.1 percent), Italy (+3.6 percent), Germany (+2.9 percent) and France (+2.1 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in September Spain posted year-on-year growth in its new car registrations, up 26.2 percent, while France, the UK, Germany and Italy indicated increases of 6.3 percent, 5.6 percent, 5.2 percent and 3.3 percent respectively.
