In May this year, new commercial vehicle registrations grew by 10.8 percent year on year in the European Union, totaling 151,484 units, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). The month counted on average the same number of working days across the region compared to the same month of the previous year. Looking at the major markets, Spain (+41.6 percent), Germany (+16.1 percent), Italy (+13.5 percent) and the UK (+12.0 percent) posted double-digit increases, while new commercial vehicle registrations decreased by 0.1 percent in France, all on year-on-year basis.
In the first five months of the current year, demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU was up 9.1 percent year on year, with 746,678 new registrations. Spain (+42.9 percent), Italy (+14.6 percent), Germany (+8.7 percent) and the UK (+8.0 percent) recorded increases in vehicle registrations compared to the same period last year, while France (-0.3 percent) saw its market contract on year-on-year basis.
