Seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the European Union member states (EU-27) in July 2010 remained stable as compared to the previous month, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In June, industrial production in the region had slightly increased by 0.1 percent over May.
On the other hand, compared with July 2009, industrial production in the EU-27 in July this year improved by 6.8 percent. July was the seventh consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was recorded.
In July this year, production of durable consumer goods in the EU-27 dropped by 0.8 percent as compared to the previous month and was up seven percent year on year, while production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.1 percent in July compared to June and was up 9.5 percent over the same month of the previous year. In addition, production of energy in the EU-27 declined by 0.4 percent month on month, while the year-on-year decrease was 0.1 percent.
Among the member states for which data are available, in July industrial production rose in ten member states, fell in ten other member states and remained stable in Germany and the Netherlands, all compared to June. The highest month-on-month increases were registered in Estonia with 5.2 percent, in Ireland with 3.2 percent and in Sweden with 2.6 percent; meanwhile, the most significant declines were observed in Finland with 3.6 percent, in Greece with 2.5 percent and in Slovenia with two percent.
