Chairman and managing director of Esfahan Steel Company, Mr. Behram Sobhani, has announced the commissioning of the company's third blast furnace on July 21, 2008, adding that the furnace will commence its production cycle in two months' time.

The third blast furnace will add an annual capacity of 1.4 million mt of crude steel to Esfahan Steel's existing capacity which is 2.2 million mt per year. Esfahan Steel's other plans include the development of agglomeration and coking facilities.

The commissioning of the furnace in question, which had originally been scheduled for January 2008, was delayed due to UN sanctions, government management and other factors.
