Erdemir Group hosts the 38th Annual Meeting of IISI in Istanbul
The 38th Annual meeting of the International Iron and Steel Institute has started in Istanbul with meeting of the members followed by the board of directors meeting.
The Board of Directors meeting was held on Sunday and Mr Okia Nimura the Representative Director and President of Nippon Steel Corporation has been elected as the new Chairman of IISI for one year, until October 2005.
Mr. Kirby Adams, the Managing Director and CEO of BlueScope Steel Limited, and Mr Guy Dolle, the Chief Executive Officer of Arcelor have been elected as Vice Chairmen until October 2005.
The Board of Directors of IISI has also elected the following companies and associations as members of IISI.
Newly elected regular members are; Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corp., Handan Iron and Steel Group, Shanghai Bao Steel Group, Shougang Group, and Wuhan Iron and Steel from
China, Chaparral Steel, and
Severstal North America Inc. (formerly Rouge Steel) from the US, and Duferco from
Italy.
Masatoshi Ozawa was elected as Regular-Member-at-Large representing Aicih Steel, Daido Steel, Mitsubishi Steel Mfg., Nakayama Steel Works, Nippon Yakin Kogyo, Osaka Steel, and Sanyo Special Steel Co.
Newly elected associate members of the IISI are; Acciaieria ISP di Cremona from
Italy, Dnepropetsstal of
Ukraine, Halyvourgiki Inc of
Greece, Nippon Steel & Sumikin
Stainless Steel Corp of
Japan, and Panchmahal Steel Limited from
India. New affiliated members are announced as
China Iron and Steel Assoc. and SwissInox of
Switzerland.
In addition to welcoming first five new regular members from
China, the IISI has also announced that it will be opening an office in
China, emphasizing the importance of the region and acknowledging that the center of worldwide steel industry is moving from Atlantic to Pacific basin.
Following the board meeting, hosts of the event
Erdemir Group welcomed the participants with a very well organized party at historical Tophane-i Amire building of Istanbul on Sunday evening.
IISI-38, that has received a record number of participation will continue with reports and panel discussions until October 6th.
