Kazakhstan-based mining group Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation Plc. (ENRC) expects its railway line project in Mozambique aimed at transporting coal from Tete province to the port of Nacala to be completed by early 2016, according to media reports.

The company plans to start construction in the first quarter of 2014, with trains scheduled to start running in late 2015 or early 2016. The rail line and an associated coal terminal at the northern coastal city of Nacala will have a capacity of 40 million mt per year, but will be able to handle up to 60 million mt, if needed.

Meanwhile, the government of Mozambique plans a $12 billion investment to overhaul its dilapidated railways and upgrade ports to boost exports from Tete province, which has one of the world's largest untapped coal fields.
