Durgapur Steel Plant to revamp its mills

Indian steel producer Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) is reportedly planning to invest Rupees 2.71 billion ($58.8 million) in order to revamp its mills. The annual production capacity is aimed to be increased with the modernization of the mills. The expansion project includes establishing a bloom caster, a ladle furnace and a re-heating furnace. After the modernization of the facility, cost of steel production is expected to decrease by Rupees 1'000 ($21.7) per ton and the quality of products to improve. DSP stated that the modernization of the mill is scheduled to be completed by October 2005.
