Russian mining and steel producing company Evraz Group has announced that it has signed a contract with Italian plantmaker Danieli for technical modernization of the continuous slab casting machine into a billet casting machine at Evraz ZSMK, the company’s Siberian steel division. Once completed, the project will enable the plant to increase production efficiency by cutting production costs of rolled goods and improving their quality. The total investments in the upgrade will exceed RUB 4.5 billion ($71.9 million).

After the slab caster upgrade, the annual production capacity of the billet caster will be about 2.4 million mt of continuously cast semi-finished products. The upgrade project is estimated for completion in 2018.
