Italian plantmaker Danieli has announced it has joined forces with Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA), the UAE’s largest steel manufacturer and market leader, to further decarbonize the latter’s steelmaking operations.

As part of the memorandum of understanding, Danieli will test a pilot electrical process gas heater at ESA’s direct reduced iron (DRI) plant No. 1. The project aims to enhance efficiency and sustainability in the Emirati company’s production processes.

Currently, ESA is operating two low-carbon mini-mills featuring Energiron DRI technology, that were also supplied by Danieli, to produce high-quality long products such as heavy sections, bars and wire rods.
